Antonina @ Dublin

Shots 1 & 2 are digital, Nikon D80 + 35mm @ 1/200 F5.6 + Elinchrom strobe 400w @90% max power, no light modifier straight on to model.
Edited with photoshop element 6.

Thanks to Tonya.

This is how I like using digital for B&W. If you compare to the film shots from the previous post, same lens, but on a full frame film SLR, you can clearly the difference in style. Digital won't get you the sharpness (attention, sharpness is not resolution), the lovely blurs, that feeling that envy to touch the  photo like an old piece of wooden furniture. But it allows you post processing contrast, and light (especially in RAW and with good original exposure), in a way that makes it very interesting for those kind of trash-flash fashion effects.

More to come soon...

Inspiration: Akif Hakan Celebi

In his own words: "striving to go beyond established styles, and widen the boundaries of photographic expression".

Turkish photographer now living in Miami, Hakan Celebi is a beauty & fashion photographer who strikes by is very personal way of using color thru outfits, make up, natural backgrounds and post processing.

He is excellent at creating edgy images, always in color, with a drop of efficient and tasteful provocation.

Not a master is classic photography in my opinion (he obviously doesn't work his light and exposure that much, digital equipment does it for him), he however rules at matching color and post processing heavily without images ever looking cheap, leaving you with a taste of cheap fake.

He layers a lot and applies colored lights to his backgrounds in order to create a color harmony, uses very everyday life interior and scenery in a creative way, thru quality poses, and an interesting sense of distance to the model.

The kind of photography I don't intend to do, but truly admire as he embraces modern technique in the best of way.

If you are a heavy post processor, consider taking a look at his work :)

A new born collaboration !

I started shooting for the fashion blog misslimoncello.com, we'll soon organize proper shooting outdoors with different models, I'm looking forward to it !

I used 85mm F1.8 and 35mm F2 Nikon lenses, with Elinchrom flash lightning.

Inspiration: Jonathan Leder

- Jonathan Leder is an American photographer in his mid 30ies from...guess...NYC. For a change.

He has been working for quite a few nice clients (Elle Italia, etc.) On his site it's film only, from MF to Polaroid with of course good Ol' 35mm. His moody pictures have a little something of that 70ies vintage touch with young naked skinny girl as for Ryan McGinley. However,  Ryan's work is more a vision of asexual innocently fucked up but happy kids (males and females), touched by some sort of immortal grace, Leder's work bends a lot toward a fashion aesthetics. A mix of Vogue and happily trashed 70ies America.
Very strong moods, use of grain and natural light is delightful. I love it, even if it's not very original. I mean naked models in a trash set up has been done a million times, NYC people have to go out a little, but he does it better (and the all drug thing can really piss me off. If you are a junky, you're a piece of shit, nothing cool about it).

Photoshop junkies have everything to learn from him.
