Inspiration: Michael Magin

His website: http://www.zeitautomatik.com/

What is it about: female portraits and minimalist landscapes.

Has it been done before? Yes...well at the same time with photography it's probably been done before anyway. So is it stil worth showing? Yes, because although it's been done by many, he does it much better than most, and it's really pleasant to look at.

Notice that the ladies aforementioned happened to be lightly clothed if clothed at all. So if you are under eighteen run away. It's bad ! Click on that link if you want to see boobies, this is a clean blog (and I promise you that link has some great wild boobies images, the good stuff,  you won't regret it).

Anyway, it is very clean work, with few pictures I wouldn't keep in the portfolio. Mostly digital work with very very proper artificial (I believe) lighting, and some medium format. Gentle color treatment, refined and all. See for yourselves :)

The Nu Project

Minneapolis (gooooo Goooophers !!! ... sorry old habit) photographer Matt Blum started those series of nudes in 2005 with the following rules: no models, no make up, no glamour, real people only.

Go to your local supermarket, now look at Matt Blum's work...yup he shoots normal people. Now I wouldn't promote if that was the only virtue of his work. Those also happen to be great shots. Both things put together make it all very interesting.

What will be even more interesting for you is to analyse the reaction you're going to have watching his galleries.

My first thought was that years of magazines and internet nudity actually shape your brain in a way that you might not even be aware of. You do become somehow intolerant to normality, that's wicked and pretty dumb. Especially knowing what my belly is turning into... Oh! Wait ! Now I start to see how it can ruin your selfesteem as a teenage girl.

Then voyeurism went away, and I noticed one thing as a photographer: those people tell a lot more of story than those photoshop models. I did shoot models or attractive girls I convinced to pose. They mostly do what they know from magazines. I used to set them up in a romantic kinda set up but it was all fake. I'm passed that now, but this work makes me realize I haven't taken an actual portrait for a while. By that I mean an image that is a true extract of who a person is. That sucks for portrait photographers...back to basics Ronan.

Inspiration: Jonathan Leder

- Jonathan Leder is an American photographer in his mid 30ies from...guess...NYC. For a change.

He has been working for quite a few nice clients (Elle Italia, etc.) On his site it's film only, from MF to Polaroid with of course good Ol' 35mm. His moody pictures have a little something of that 70ies vintage touch with young naked skinny girl as for Ryan McGinley. However,  Ryan's work is more a vision of asexual innocently fucked up but happy kids (males and females), touched by some sort of immortal grace, Leder's work bends a lot toward a fashion aesthetics. A mix of Vogue and happily trashed 70ies America.
Very strong moods, use of grain and natural light is delightful. I love it, even if it's not very original. I mean naked models in a trash set up has been done a million times, NYC people have to go out a little, but he does it better (and the all drug thing can really piss me off. If you are a junky, you're a piece of shit, nothing cool about it).

Photoshop junkies have everything to learn from him.

Oldies

Today Dublin was covered in snow...pictures soon. I was doing some long exposure night shots when my hand held meter ran out of batteries, damnit. I'll go again tomorrow night if we still have snow.

By then, some old shots, from my digital area, and first nudes of the blog. (yeaah boobies)
All shot with an already vintage Nikon D80 and 50mm lens + SB600 flash.
