Inspiration: Benjamin Bechet, les beigneurs.

Unusual subject, pleasant result.

Benjamin Bechet is photographer from Marseille.

Inspiration: Jacko Vassilev

I was checking the exhibit at the European Center for Photography in Paris this week end. I discovered that photographer called Jacko Vassilev. Don't get fooled by the rather unattractive web site, his pictures are amazing !

He is an art and press photographer born in 1951, and he is Bulgarian. Most of the following shots are taking in Bulgaria.

Enjoy !

Inspiration: Alberto Cassani

I found Italian graphic designer and photographer Alberto Cassani on Flickr. Surprisingly we twice took the exact same shot in the exact same place in Berlin. Now that could happen in Time Square easily, but both our shots were taken in places where people would not traditionally stop to take a picture.

Of course, someone who follows the same path as me (although I believe I made those shots after him but anyway) MUST be very talented and deserves a blog post :p

Check out his site: http://www.albertocassani.com/

My personal selection:

Inspiration: Harry Gruyaert

Belgium photographer Harry Gruyaert. Couldn't find any official site (?)

This is what you can achieve with:
  • tons of talent
  • the dynamic range of film
If you are to retain something from this, it is: work your exposure, and don't be afraid to try, frame different, take risks. You'll only waste memory space.

Tribute to Remi Ochlik

Remi Ochlik was killed in Homs, Syria, doing his job reporting on what's really going on there.

He died for a job that doesn't even pay well, he died because he though the risk was worth it. Him and other photographers enter Syria illegally, take the highest level of risk because they believe someone's gotta do it. That my friends is what I call a proper sense of duty. A man like that has a serious pair of balls and he is using them the right way. Some might say it takes a certain degree of addiction to adrenaline, ok but so what? You are what you do, and this guy was doing it hardcore.

So you know what pisses me off? Him, and Mani (still alive fortunately) for example, take those amazing risks to report on the fact that in Syria, what's going on is of the greatest possible degree of atrocity, and our occidental "saviors of the world" leaders are just wanking around waiting for whatever.

Anyway, this is a tribute to Remi Ochlik, check out his work, that's why he died for. He was 29.

Inspiration: Karl de Keyzer

Working for Magnum, Karl de Keyzer is a Belgium photographer whose work is mainly focus of journalism and documentary. As always, I don't care much about bios so here are the photos. It hardly gets better than that.

The Dirty Story

"I think that photography is very voyeuristic, by nature it is massively voyeuristic, far more so than sketching or painting, it's so instantaneous that it steals moments from people."

From an interview of...well I don't know his name but I like his photography, and that quote. Check his work at http://thedirtystory.blogspot.com/
